likability week on TGOC
July 17, 2010 by cash
One of my proudest discoveries yet can be summed up in the following, (somewhat sinister sounding) quote:
All power achieved without maximum likability will be hard won and short lived.
-cash
Why should you care?
Good question.
I’ll ask one in return:
Are you really that dumb?
All people, whether subconsciously or not, want more power. Power creates freedom of choice. Power creates freedom period. If you fancy yourself a friend of freedom, you need to do everything you can to increase yours.
The easiest way (and therefore the only way) to get started?
Be. More. Likable.
The quote above is telling because it applies to all power since the dawn of time. From continent spanning kingdoms overthrown by bloody coups, to studio apartment spanning relationships, overthrown by spineless fools (i.e. disapproving friends or family); being well liked is more important than you think.
This week on TGOC, I’ll present ideas and techniques for becoming more likeable. More powerful. More you.
Or at least more the “you” I know you could be. If you stop being such an asshole all the time.
I kid, I kid. Sort of.
To get you started? Some pre-requisite reading:
suffer in solitude, celebrate en masse
how to be the best dad* in the world
cash power: elevate your eloquence
pop quiz: expectation exceeder
volunteer work that doesn’t suck
