“eloquently dangerous”

March 31, 2009 by cash · Leave a Comment

I spend plenty of time thinking about my future.  I know for instance, that my writing will continue reaching a wider and wider audience.  This thought thrills me.  As mentioned first here, another thing I’m looking forward to is reading reviews of it.  One phrase I would love to hear used to describe my work is “eloquently dangerous”.  I can picture it on the back of a book sleeve; a quote from some magazine editor:

“an eloquently dangerous book”

I hope to be thought of as both these things.  Newsweek editor in chief, are you listening?  Of course you are.

patron saints of cash

I live a very strange life.  As time goes on, I find myself paying for fewer and fewer things.  This is good, since I’m basically po.  The amazing thing about my recent financial downgrade is that my social life hasn’t suffered in the least.  In fact, I go out more now than perhaps I ever did.  You see I have patrons.  These patrons are a wonderful crew of bartenders, doormen, cocktail waitresses, coat check divas, djs, promoters and friends who take care of me.  They take very, very good care of me.  Many of them are fans of TGOC.  This is at once flattering and empowering.  The fact that they find value in my writing makes the exchange of these wonderful comps I receive feel just, and earned.  Everytime I walk into a club for free, I’m opening myself to experiences that may wind up here and allow me to entertain or educate the wonderful people who’ve allowed me to do so.  I do not take your genorosity for granted, and hope we can both continue to benefit from this awesome arrangement.

I’d like to give a very special shout out this week.  This week’s entire set of posts on TGOC is brought to you by the number “13″ and the letter “E”.  The E is for Evelyn.  Thank you for your contribution to the cause, it means more than you know.

hugs,

Come to think of it, “E” is also for Ecstasy.  Hmm, “E”velyn.  “E”cstasy.  Coincidence?  I don’t think so.

#7 the easy way is the only way

What if I told you the secret to eternal happiness was exactly one sentence long?  What if I told you that accepting this one rule of existence can completely transform your entire life?  What if I told you give me $5.50 before I go on?  C’mon.  Those smokes aren’t gonna buy themselves.  I kid (not really, give me the money later).   The secret to happiness?

“The easy way is the only way”.

Read that.  Re-read it, and then, read it one more time.

The second you start struggling with something, anything, anything at all, you’re fucked.  Twice.

First, you’re fucked by the endeavor.

Let’s say you’re Read more

patience is like trust

It has to be earned.  I am not a patient man.  After all, this entire site is basically a testament to my fixation on instant gratification.  Still, there are things.. people.. experiences for which I’m willing to wait.

Consider my patience a gift.

Don’t abuse it.

It certainly has Read more

finish my sentence; best compliment ever?

During a recent lunchtime conversation; an accidental, positively energizing compliment.  Talking about relationships with my dear knowers Tracy and Becca, I start to reiterate a point from TGOC.  Only I didn’t get to finish.  Why?  Becca spoke up and finished Read more

elementals: modern magick? part 2

March 26, 2009 by cash · 2 Comments

Editors Note:  Hey Cash; when you suck, you s-u-c-k.  Lucky for me, I rarely have to face this terrible truth.  The other morning however, 5 minutes before posting my triumphant follow up to this piece, I realized I’d made a um, “minor” mistake.  A mistake that basically cost me my entire point.  Dammmmmmit.

I had a choice to make.

Change one part of the post to make it ‘work’ (lying to my readers in the process), or scrap the whole thing.  I hated the prospect of throwing away hours of work.  I hated the idea of being dishonest with you even more.

Instead?  A compromise.

I’ll present the post, as written.  It’s an interesting story if nothing else.  Following it, I’ll disclose my fuck up and mention a strange twist that begs the question; Read more

Good gawd.  A few months ago I voiced my hopes and fears about Spike Jonze’s upcoming adaptation of one of my favorite boyhood books.  The trailer is here.  Jesus.  I’ll let it speak for itself.

We all have them.  We all resent them.  They’re the people, maybe people we’ve known for years, maybe decades, that only seem to get in touch when times are really tough for them .  They need our advice.  They need our counsel.  They need someone, anyone, to be Read more

the best thing about black market cigarettes

March 24, 2009 by cash · 2 Comments

Oh, they’re coming.  With two recent price increases (one, I believe tax related, one tobacco company greed related) and another on its way, underground cigarette sales will quickly follow.  Before I get into the best thing about black market cigarettes, a quick laugh at both Read more
